"Xi" love, and mine...

Coming to college, I had no intentions to become a part of a sisterhood by joining a sorority.

The first two and half weeks of school at UNC-Asheville were not exactly what I expected. Although I am blessed to have a roommate who has been one of my best friends since single digits, I felt as though I was never going to make "friends" here. When I say that... I know many people are probably thinking "Scottie, you are so impatient. Things like that take time, and it'll definitely happen..." or you're like my brother, and you'll open, and honestly tell me that "the first two months of college, suck!"

Needless to say, I did not go to all of the recruitment events. As a matter of fact, I only went to one- and it just so happened to be the very last one.

There was a luau party behind Mills at 7pm on a Monday- I decided to wear my high waisted jeans, nerd glasses, and my favorite flamingo shirt (after all, it was a luau). One of my suite mates accompanied me, but wasn't able to stay long- which, no lie, scared me at first... But I ended up having one of the best nights of my experience at UNCA so far.

It wasn't long after I filled out a questionnaire that I talked to the President of AXID, and ended up meeting and talking with girls that ended up being very down to earth, open minded, and even charismatic.

After that night, I was invited to Preference Night- which was awesome because everyone dressed up, and all of the sisters sang to us... (I really wanted to sing along)!!!

After preference night, I realized how amazing it would truly be to get a bid and pledge- these sisters, and their motives, dreams, and hearts were exactly who I wanted to eventually consider friends.

So, Bid Day came... Thursday at lunch time, Vice-President of Membership texted me... I went to the pinnacle in the student union, and was presented a white envelope with my name on it- an invitation inside inviting me to join the sisterhood of the Zeta Tau Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta at UNCA.

I spoke with my mom and dad- daddy who was actually a Sigma Nu at Virginia Tech... (Sigma Nu helped found Alpha Xi Delta Women's Fraternity's first chapter at Lombard College)- and they both set rules, and agreed to let me pledge.

Friday was Bid-Day Celebration- and boy was it a wonderful day. The weather was perfect, all of the sisters made a precious banner for the "new bids on the block" and we all rocked the frat-tanks.

Basically, I am thrilled to see where my journey continues with all of these beautiful, supportive, and inspiring ladies I get to call Sisters. It is truly a blessing to be able to find myself, where I least expected, and happy- accompanied by awesome people. I am looking forward for what has yet to come, and cannot wait to wear letters!
